How it works

By removing excess moisture and air-borne contaminants from the air inside your refrigerator you’ll create a far better storage environment and your fridge will work more efficiently. The proprietary minerals in Coolertech filters do exactly this.

What it is...
Coolertech filters can improve the performance of virtually any coldstore facility. This is achieved by using desiccant minerals to passively filter the cooled air. Extensive research has produced a unique filter that is both effective and economical. Coolertech have developed different formulas of blended minerals to suit various applications with the primary ingredient being a natural mineral called Zeolite.
Zeolite's unique and useful adsorbent characteristics make it widely used in many commercial applications throughout the world. In either it's natural or synthetic form, some of the more common applications for zeolite include;
- filtrating municipal water supplies
- cleansing harmful airborne industrial chemicals & pollutants
- a softening agent in detergents
- a desiccant where situations require moisture removed

How it works...
The mineral mix developed by Coolertech has a huge interior surface area that, when looked at under a microscope resembles honeycomb pores. It also has a natural negative ionic (electrical) charge, while water, odour and gas molecules have a positive charge. Since opposites attract, the filter mineral actually pulls and holds these molecules within the honeycomb framework. Because the mineral composition remains unchanged while straining ions from other elements, it adsorbs rather than absorbs. Zeolites in particular are some of the most efficient ion exchangers known today and coupled with their huge molecular storage area, makes them the perfect passive filter media.

| The open, porous structure of zeolite enables it to act as a molecular sieve straining the air of contaminated particles. |

What it does...
When a Coolertech filter is placed in a refrigerated environment it will:
- Adsorb and desorb moisture (up to 50% it's own weight)
- Adsorb and trap contaminated air-borne particles (ie, odours and bacteria)
- Adsorb and trap harmful gases - particularly ethylene but also pectin and oxides
The direct results of this are:

Prolonging Produce & Flower life...
Ethylene removal
The number one enemy in the floral and produce industry is an odourless, colourless, naturally-occurring gas called Ethylene. Ethylene is naturally produced by plants and produce to regulate growth and development. But in abundance, it accelerates the aging process ruining flesh, skins, leaves and petals. Aging and damaged plants then give off more gas, accelerating the decay process even further, triggering decay early in fresh, healthy stock.
It's like breathing your own carbon dioxide exhale. Too much carbon dioxide will kill a person, and Ethylene gas will basically do the same thing to a plant. Coolertech filters remove Ethylene gas thereby dramatically extending the life of your fruit, vegetables and cut flowers giving a better looking product and longer sales opportunities.
Respiration and humidity control
Even after harvest, plants and produce continue to breathe, consuming oxygen and producing carbon dioxide in a process called respiration. Slowing the respiration rate will extend the life of plants and produce.
Using Coolertech filters will maintain an ideal humidity level to prevent dehydration and slow the respiration rate promoting the shelf life of your stock. Refrigerated fruit and vegetables will ripen at a slower, more controlled rate lessening your labour costs in time spent trimming, cleaning and replacing damaged stock.

Sustaining Meat & Poultry quality...
Why meat degrades
The rapid decay of meat is due to its high protein, fat and water content. Unchecked, aerobic spoilage results, usually with slime formation, undesirable odours, flavour taints, and discolouration.
Meats are a 3rd biotic order class of goods in which respiration processes are suspended. However, biochemical, microbial and other decomposition processes, still proceed. Due to its high content of unfrozen water, meat also has enzymatic and bacterial activities continuing.
By controlling these processes and activities, you can prolong the life of your meat stock.
Controlling decay by improving the storage environment
To control decay, chilled meat requires Category 7 Storage Climate Conditions (SCC VII) being, particular temperature, humidity and ventilation conditions. Maximum storage life and best possible meat quality are primarily achieved by maintaining the correct chill temperature and air moisture content.
Ideally, the chill temperature should be between 0-2°C with a relative humidity of 80-85% - conditions which Coolertech filters help deliver.
Unwanted micro-organisms require heat and moisture, so by lowering the temperature and reducing available water below their optimum level, their growth will be stunted. Coolertech filters release clean moisture in times of low humidity and adsorb excess water vapour and contaminants when the air is too wet, keeping meat surfaces free of excess moisture and prolonging their fresh state.
Chilled meat is also highly sensitive to foreign odours and absorbs them rapidly. Removing odours from your cold-store is therefore essential for delivering quality product. Coolertech filters 'strain' the air, trapping large odorous particles in mineral honeycomb like a molecular sieve. Coolertech will regularly service and exchange your filters before they become over-loaded.
The net result is a drier, crisper, colder environment, free of odour and perfectly suited to meat preservation.

And Seafood too...
Fish is even more perishable than meat. This is attributable not only to the protein-decomposing enzymes which are still active at low temperatures and the large proportion of micro-organisms associated with fish, but also to the low connective tissue content of fish.
Many of the same principles in maintaining good chilled meat quality apply to fresh fish. Using Coolertech filters in conjunction with clean packing ice, will achieve the essential temperature and humidity levels required to prolong the life of seafood.
Your stock will display bright, glossy colours, firm and resilient flesh and obtrusive odours will be diminished. Naturally, this will help you sell more and give precious extra days of good stock life.
